Bling Your Cookie Booth 2013

Look who won 1st prize in the "Bling Your Booth" contest!  The girls did really help cut our letters and pick out fonts.  They also decorated their hands.    The costumes helped us sell 18 cases of cookies that day at Marketplace during a 9am to 5pm shift.  We were left with one kind of cookie by the end.

I tried 2 new desserts this past weekend. 

Homemade Cheese Danish.  YUMMMMMM  Wow--puff pastry and a little filling.  I added a few strawberries. mmmmm

Creamcheese was obviously the theme for the dessert since the Pochettes are made of a creamchesse and butter dough/pie crust.  So that part was interesting.  They were made sweet when you put the Nutella in the middle.  mmm warm nutella cookie/ta

The Year of the Neverending Maple Sugaring Season

After 34 gallons of sap, we got about 1 gallon  and 1 pint of syrup. 

I have calculated that it takes about 1 hour to boil down one gallon of sap.  So after 34 hours I am pretty done with sap for a while.

Tom's 42nd Birthday

Opps we forgot to take a picture of him at Pizza Ranch, but that was the pizza he wanted to try for his b-day.  Ally and Syd LOVE the place because it is a buffet of pizza and for Ally chicken and mashed potatoes.  Seriously Tom and I totally over ate.  Tom got a card from us that is a Hula dancer who says Party your Grass off.  She is a moveable card who spins in a circle.  He also got a packer long sleved t-shirt.  But the best part of all ws the TURTLE CHEESECAKE!!  Tom gained 3 pounds and I gained 1 or 2.  Great reason not to have it in the house!

Toothless Joe

Toothless Joe.   Mom, why do you keep calling me toothless Joe?   hmmmm  I don't know, but I like it.  Ally you would be really scary if you had teeth in there. 

Snow strom of May 2nd 2013-- really 13 inches of snow

So the girls and I spent the day in our house hiding from the cracking and then falling trees outside.  We were lucky enough to have power until 10am, but I didn't start the cookies early enough for us to have warm cookies while we waited for the snow to stop and finally come off of the scary trees.

Our neighbors came over for buckets and bucket of drinking water and toilet flushing water.  Isn't it fun to have a well of your own. 

Finally, after lunch most of the tree carnage was over and we sat down in the livingroom next to the warm fire to play a game of Draw your own Insect.  Pretty much a draw your own Cookie game.  It was fun.  Both girls got into it.  We got the idea from our Wisconsin State Parks workbook.  Syd and Ally want to earn a nature badge for the back of their uniform.  Sydney made a moon flipbook and Ally made a "night scene" with white crayon and watercolor over the top. 

I should post our insects.  Anyway here are pictures of the historic storm . 
PS  Both Nana and Grandma didn't get any snow or even rain today.  Bummer for us.

The Backhoe came to our rescue.  In the other pic. you will see our pontoon cowering in the garage.

May Day Baskets

Ally made a May Day basket for Jan and Patrick accros the street from us.  She knew exactly who she wanted to give it to.  She went across the street by herself and rang the doorbell and ran. 

Meanwhile, at our house someone left a May Basket for us with a real flower in it.  It had a child's writing. hmmmm I think it was Amy and Sam S. from down the street, but who knows. 

Really, May Day was just as fun as St. Nick day and next year we are totally going to do something!! 

What happens when you put a raw egg into vinegar?

Sydney's prediction:   The egg will change color.  The egg shell will dissolve, which means the egg shell will totally dissapper into the vinegar.

Ally's prediction: The egg will turn white.
